Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

With 9.2.1, I don't share call logs and I have the same account on multiple devices so your statement is false.

Someone asked the group, not you specifically - so whether or not you answer the question is immaterial.

Yes, Apple expects you, as an individual, to use one Apple ID on all of your devices. However, this means that you will be sharing call logs. If you don't like the fact that it works that way, try turning off iCloud drive. Or, as a last resort, use two different Apple IDs.

So there are three issues with this:

    1. It is a new feature and is not consistent . So if this really were their intention it does not work properly.

    2. Why would anyone want such a feature? i.e. seeing that they have a missed call on a phone they don't have a missed call on. However, assuming there are people who find this useful Apple should make it work properly AND offer a on/off switch for the feature.

    3. People with iCloud off are also experiencing this issue.

All in all a bit of a mess.

Thanks but I didn't mention sharing with anyone else I mention MY DEVICES and was told by a troll that Apple doesn't want me to use the same ID for all MY devices.I was clear and the Troll understood what I was saying but just likes taking a position and holding his breath.

Good technique when clueless - throw out the troll word.

So it doesn't matter if I don't answer you then?

    Thanks for that.

I've been following this thread (and occasionally contributing to it) since its inception, and I can tell you that all 4 of your steps have been repeatedly done at various points in the discussion. Unfortunately, we are now at the point where there is no more to say about it, and the entire thread has devolved into one argument after another, many of which are a result of posters and responders talking about two entirely different aspects of the problem.

Many of the responders at this point, have, in fact, done each of the things you listed repeatedly, so, it's just getting redundant, old, annoying, frustrating, you get the idea.....

Many of the posters coming in at this point, are not clearly stating how they are using the Apple ID (whether it is simply shared amongst devices, or whether it is shared amongst users), so it just gets confusing, with unstated meanings of "shared", so "we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly against the past", and never get any further than we were at the start of all of this discussion.

But again, since we are all just users, no one's opinion means diddly-squat. Only Apple can sort this out, and the only way they will know how unhappy people are is if they send feedback.

    Just sayin'.

Makes perfect sense to me that my devices would be in sync. For the life of me, I don't understand why other people find this to be such a problem. Just goes to show different people look at things differently. Apple is well know for chosing how they think things should be and not offering a lot of options to change that. People who disagree with that UIX philosophy are often not happy with Apple products.

I didn't say iCloud. I said iCloud Drive. There is a difference.

Generally, I prefer someone not post a non-helpful response. An example of a helpful response is "gail from maine"...

It means this is a fairly new feature Apple have added and does not work consistently. Many people in here say it is sporadic or works some days and not others or works in one direction only.

I don't understand why other people find this to be such a problem.

I run 3 phone numbers and it is important for me to see who called which phone at which time

    Indeed

Which may be acceptable if the feature worked consistently

If there was a way in the call list to see which device the call actually rang on, I would agree in theory with you.  But there isn't, so for those who have multiple devices that receive calls, it is not helpful to see a call list entry for a call that never came in on that phone.  For those who have multiple devices but only one device that receives calls, it might make sense since it is known actually where the call came to.  But for those with multiple devices that receive calls, not knowing which device the call came in on is really really not useful since it defeats the purpose of the call list entry.
