Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

If there was a way in the call list to see which device the call actually rang on, I would agree in theory with you.  But there isn't, so for those who have multiple devices that receive calls, it is not helpful to see a call list entry for a call that never came in on that phone.

In your opinion.... I don't actually care which device the call comes in on. I just need to know who called and when. So, for me, it makes perfect sense.

Generally, I prefer someone not post a non-helpful response. An example of a helpful response is "gail from maine"...

You want it the way you want it, would that be a fair take on it?

Dublin Railway Station has a fine clock, the clock has 4 faces, all read different times so depending on where you stand relative to the clock the time is different.

Well, in your alternate opinion  - but I don't think most users who actually have different phones for different purposes would agree.  Can you see how returning a call from a phone that wasn't from the original number called may be a problem for some people or may be revealing more information to folks than needed?

That would NEVER happen in the U.S.

Yes, that's why I said, "So, for me..." I keep saying that I recognize that different people have different needs and desires. What works for me may not work for you. However, what I also keep saying is Apple also tends to have strong opinions about how things should work and they don't always give options. So, this means that, for some people, Apple products are simply not the best tool for them. Life is too short to be this annoyed by a cell phone.

That's just relativity and time dilation at work...

Right, but my point is that not all use cases are equal or mainstream.  For example, I might never save a file in a word processor (always printing it when done) but how many word processors exist that don't allow you to save files?  I think your case of having two different phone numbers and not caring which number got the call is extremely unusual and I highly doubt Apple ever had that as a design goal.  It's been my experience that Apple's design choices are usually made for the most common case and not putting much time in for unusual cases.
