Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.3

Where did Meg state that she used 2 different phone numbers?

Right, but my point is that not all use cases are equal or mainstream.

So what I think works well is less important than the way you think things should work? Really, is that so? And on what evidence do you base this assumption that my "use case" is extremely unusual? Remember, the plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence". And, apparently, Apple agrees with me. Lucky for me, less so for you. I'm sorry things don't work the way you want them to. I don't like the way Do Not Disturb works but I'm not running around judging other people based on the fact that they find it works for them.

Speculating on why Apple made a particular choice is a violation of the Terms of Use to which we all agreed when we signed up. So, you're one your own there.

I'm glad to hear that!  Wouldn't hurt to reiterate another time amidst the noise, I suppose...

Meg, why so recalcitrant. After all if JAta2 says it is so, it is so.

Other than more noise what could it hurt?

If she has two phones, they have to have separate numbers.  A phone number is tied to a device when activated.  If she doesn't, then her post is meaningless since that is what I'm talking about.

Yeah, I have major issues with DND so I don't use it.  I also don't whine about it.

    Another assumption eh?

There are objectively better use cases than others

How do you jump to the conclusion that Apple agrees with you when it is most likely a bug!  Features that work differently for different people with the same settings are bugs!!!  And absent any proof that this is a design feature, your statement on violating the TOS is extremely bogus and unhelpful.

    It's not a bug.

    Same experiences here.

I dont know you guys are confusing....  To me the call logs should not be merged.  A marry couple should be allowed to have 2 numbers on one id.  Even if my sons number should be allowed on my id.  And this should not happen.  Why should a family have multiple ids????  Pay for apps 2 - 3 -4 times.  I am going to go to Verizon this weekend... and put my husbands new phone back on his own id.  I wanted them merged for many reason (the apple tv as well)  But that obvious cant be ....  Causes too much of a headache!  I managed to shut of each other phone calls an texts threw the settings.  But I do not like having my call log merged with his.  To me that is a bug.  But maybe it is Apple feature.  who knows.  But in order to fix it bottom line I am going to have to reset my husbands phone.  which upset me.

By the way when I set it up... it added all his contacts to mine as well....  annoying.

Because a family consists of multiple persons.  Kinda like a Social Security number in the U.S.

First, you identified only two persons, "a marry couple" is how you described your situation.  Second, Family Sharing solves your concern - the two of you (and any future additions to your family) will pay only once AND you can have both shared and private calendars and both shared and private reminders AND, if the future additions consist of children, you can control what apps they obtain.  Texts and contacts are NOT shared.  I suggest that you investigate.

I guess I will look into family sharing after I fix his phone.  Sort of upsetting we even did this.  Because now I have to copy all his data to make sure it is not lost in the reset.  Although his contacts are now on both my id and his id I don't see how we could loose that info.  But just incase I will print it out.  Plus all the photos.  I guess I learned my lesson.  I thought it be easier.....  esp for playing his videos on our apple tv.
