Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

But only one that frequents the 7-11s.

I think they all do, leastwise that's what they say.

All of your uncles or all of the Elvises - or is that the same thing?

    It's blurry, but possibly.

This message thread is for people who think the duplicative call logs are a problem and a bug, and are here looking for answers.  My mailbox is inundated with posts from people who offer no solutions, but simply want to beat others over the head because they have a different conclusion then those of us looking for answers.

What kind of "answer" would suit you? Because there is only one answer that is correct here: Send your Feedback to Apple.

No one can say one way or the other as to whether this is a bug or a feature, since nobody from Apple is participating here. So, if you are looking for an answer, that is the one and only answer that can be given since we are just users like you. Everything else is opinion - a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

You have no more insight into what this is than we do, and just as you will not find anything in any of the manuals or update material discussing this as a feature, you will also not find anything in any documentation discussing this as a bug.

The passion expressed by people on this thread regarding their opinion about what is going on here in no way legitimizes either opinion, nor does it render the other side of the argument as  moot.

We had a user who contacted Apple and was derided here.

Which shows your ignorance of the software business.  When a program returns different results under the same settings, it's a bug.  Really.  Honestly.  We don't need a written affidavit from the vendor saying this.  And a customer service representative does represent the company to the end user contrary to what is posted here.  Can they be mistaken?  Sure, but they are the best and many times the only window into the company from the end user perspective.  Even the CEO can be mistaken!  But they have access to resources the end user does not have.  In Apple's case, even reporting a bug puts one under strict disclosure agreements and cannot be revealed so your criteria for a valid bug is totally meaningless since no bug would be valid until fixed.

What I am looking for is for people to stop coming to this forum and telling those who are distressed by the calls logs to stop telling them - TOO BAD - IT IS A FEATURE - GET A 2nd APPLE ID OR A DIFFERENT PHONE!!  That is not helpful.

Then perhaps you should trash your iPhone and purchase a competitive product that functions more in line with your wishes.

I do not disagree with you that the discussion has devolved into a bashing match which is neither productive nor helpful. And, beyond the fact that there are two different opinions about what this is all about, and that there are many people who simply do no like it, whatever it is, it has also become pointless.

    Best of luck,

Well, guess what. You are NOT going to get what you're looking for here. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. You claim to be a lawyer... guess what. You lost. Deal with it.

That is what amazes me about this thread - the purpose is supposed to be to help folks.  But some people are so full of themselves that they could care less how their comments are helping - just as long as they appear right.  And I will make a prediction: when Apple fixes the problem and posts it to the change log of a future release, there will be some folks here who will continue to argue.  My latest purpose on this thread was to find out if others had the problem fixed with 9.2.1.  And when one poster said it was fixed for them, they were derided.  And when I reported it was fixed on my phone, I was also dismissed.  And when another person reported a conversation with Apple on the issue who confirmed it was a bug, this was also dismissed with derision.  And yet they offered no evidence to the contrary showing that the truth of the situation was immaterial to their being right.  I posted ways that that the community could help and was told that the method I posted is already used.  Guess what, that hasn't been my experience and I suspect the experience of most folks who visit this thread.  That's the state of things here... its sad for a community that says it prides itself on helping people.  I just hope that this thread is not representative of all threads in this community.  And if any moderator is reading, I hope they pay heed...

Unfortunately you don't get to pick who posts what. Or whether you post it's all voluntary

    >> I will reiterate. My statement was only that Apple have not confirmed this is a bug. They have not confirmed it is a feature. Arguing the toss helps no body.

The proof is that it works differently for folks with the same settings.  In my case, there were identical settings that only worked when 9.2.1 was installed.  That's what a software bug is.

The way treating it as a bug could help is for folks to contact Apple and point this inconsistent behavior out.  The problem with feedback is that Apple won't respond to it.  However, if you take the time and register as a software developer (it's free and no additional information need to be provided except check off acceptance of Apple terms of nondisclosure), you can file a bug report.  Since I no longer experience this problem with 9.2.1, I can't really report the bug.  But for those still experiencing the problem, I encourage you to take a few minutes and report it.
