Template copy portrait orientation confusion

I have an .iba template that I need to copy chapters, sections and pages to a new .iba document. For the life of me I cannot figure the following:

The template must have portrait orientation so if I go to portrait view and drag the CHAPTER from the LAYOUTS page in the template I get ONLY the top half and the bottom half is blank.

First image is what I'm copying

second image is what I get as the placeholder, text underneath and the whole paragraph section does not copy.

Any help?

OK I understand a bit more, what I meant to say now that I know the phrase is an item or items in the THUMBNAIL TRACK.

So I figured out if I go to portrait, copy from the chapter layout in the template, the paste places everything in the correct spot BUT then I found if I ADD page in portrait and check "Show Thumbnail track " it moves the paragraph .

SO NOW

How do I add a placeholder and text in the thumbnail track.

That should be much clearer.
