Q: Still 5G Wifi issues with Yosemite 10.10.3
Hi,
I’ve a rMBP15 (Mid 2014) and a Timecapsule. Both devices support 5G Wifi (802.11ac). This is nice because ac gives you a very fast access to the disk drive in the Timecapsule. BUT: Yosemite still don’t like 5G connections and this is very, very, very embarrassing for a premium manufacturer like Apple that advertises high speed Wifi. This bug is in Yosemite since the very first version (more than half a year ago). No Problems under Mavericks.
What happens? When I power on the MBP in 90% of all cases the Mac chooses the slow 2.4G Wifi of the Timecapsule. I’ve to disable and enable Wifi a few times until the Mac connects to the 5G Wifi.
To workaround this I tried to force the MBP to connect to 5G. I gave the 5G Wifi a different name and removed the 2.4G Wifi from the list of the preferred networks in System Preferences (and added the 5G Wifi, of course). Now I’ve no Wifi connection at all in 90% after power on. It takes around one minute until the Mac ‘sees’ the 5G Wifi and I can connect manually. Then the connection is rock solid and super fast.
It can't be so difficult to equip Yosemite with the same solid Wifi stack that worked so fine with Mavericks...
