Is anyone else having problems with the messaging feature on the iMac. My computer will not send messages to anyone that doesn't have an apple device

You would need to upgrade to Yosemite to be able to send text messages. Does AIM work?

I didn't do anything and everything is working just fine now. I did notice that my system has updated itself to Yosemite. Thanks
