photo acquisition stopped working

I am having this problem when transferring photos from IPhone 5 to my computer (windows 7). Getting the error message after few seconds saying that 'Photo Acquisition has stopped working' and the programme closes. Tried a number of things but could not fix it and now iPhone's memory is full.

Has anyone got the message and how it was resolved?
