Q: Access to apple watch workout file

did my first workout using my apple watch.  I did a run workout using the workout app.  It was outside.

Now, I want to take that workout file and upload it to training peaks where I keep all my training.  I can find anyway to do this.  I can't even see the details of the file (e.g. lap data, pace, hr etc over time...).  I don't see anything that you get from a real workout application -- all I see is some summary information.

Is that it?  Do you not get any more info.  It is not very useful in its current form thats for sure.

To the best of my knowledge, there is currently no way to do what you want.

Submit your feedback to Apple requesting such a feature here:

    http://www.apple.com/feedback

Meanwhile, you may want to run another app on your phone. I use Wahoo Fitness, because, along with a TickrX, it tracks things the Apple Watch doesn't, and because it allows me to export the information to almost anywhere.

Thanks.  I find that pretty lame - that workout app is about as minimal as it gets.  I will provide feedback to apple as it is close to useless the way it is.   I have most of those other apps - wahoo, strava, mapmyrun etc. but I normally don't use them since I don't always carry my phone (e.g. while swimming) and the Garmin watches work much better.  I did the run to test if the apple watch was going to be any good for swim/bike/run workouts compared to say a Garmin 920xt which is what I currently use.  I knew it wouldn't work for swimming since it is not waterproof (lame), but figured if I didn't want to change watches to my garmin I could at least use it for running.  Sadly, it isn't even close.  For the short an medium, I will stick with Garmin for real workouts and relegate the apple watch to a daily smart watch and activity tracking.  Wont be using for workouts.

Having used both my phone and a variety of Garmin watches (most recently the 620) for years, I know that the phone GPS is not nearly as accurate as the dedicated running watch. If I were training for anything serious, I'd use the Garmin. I know that I didn't buy the watch primarily as a running watch. As I want the GPS, I know I'm going to have the phone with me anyway so running another app at the same time is no particular bother for me.

It's a first generation product. It is certainly not without its weaknesses. Submit feedback. Hope for the best.
