This app is a failure.
When I snap 300 shots on my camera, bringing them into my system used to be as simple as using Picasa to import into a new folder from the memory card.
I thought I'd give Photos a shot, but it's a nightmare.
1. Why would I want to "import" photos that are already on my hard drive except to be able to manipulate them? They've already been IMPORTED from the memory card, and...
2. If I import from a memory card, I have to tell Photos to Copy the file, then the files go...well...who the **** knows where they actually go...but I don't get to specify and that makes it impossible for me to locate the images for other applications, like Adobe Bridge, or Photoshop, or Wordpress Media Uploader. But then if I copy images from another source to MY folder hierarchy and then import, I end up duplicating images. I do not want to have to keep track of a copy preference.
3. If I import from the hard drive into Photos without copy turned on, then make a change to the original file using some other software, Photos hasn't a clue, which includes the act of deleting photos using Finder, which should DELETE references to those files in Photos. Now I have hundreds of thumbnails in Photos that point nowhere, and no clear way to clean them up...which should happen automatically.
4. After years of tagging and sorting and filing and categorizing photos, going through a folder organization structure to a tag structure, now Photos wants to group everything by time, and force me to RECREATE all of my albums and groupings and organize it the way they've set it up. Picasa automatically did that.
Clearly Picasa is still superior when it comes to quickly managing photos...and Bridge is also superior.
It appears as though they're trying to dumb this software down to appease the average non-computer user.
