I can't access or display my files from Finder

I have a MacBook Pro and am running the Yosemite OS. I have consistent problems getting Finder to access files and/or remove trash from my computer. Finder does not display my folders automatically and "freezes" when I attempt to open my files manually.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Make a backup of all your files, then launch Disk Utility and run Repair disk/volume.

Your issues might be caused by software, but they might also be an indication of a hard drive failure, hence: Backup while you still can!
