New 2015 MacBook showing 4844 mAh at full charge.

I love my new 2015 MacBook; but I'm concerned I may have a defective battery. My model is the BTO 1.3Ghz model with 512GB (top available). According to what I've read, the battery should be 5263 mAh. After only 14 cycles mine shows max charge of 4844 mAh. That's about 8% off I believe.

I'm not complaining about its battery performance, as it is adequate for my needs. I just wonder if I should be taking it in to be looked at. I'd hate for it to have a bad cell or something that might suddenly get worse while traveling.

What do you all think? What Full Charge Capacity are you seeing on yours in System Profiler (About This Mac -> More Info -> Power) ? Maybe I just had the bad luck of getting a slightly low mAh battery and I should just ignore it?

2015 MacBook Retina 12" with top configuration (1.3 GHz processor). After 128 cycles the battery capacity is down 16%, if we consider a 39.7 Watt-hour initial capacity. At the moment the Full Charge Capacity (mAh) is listed at 4438 mAh, so that gives us roughly 33.3 Watt-hour battery capacity. The Full Charge Capacity is slowly but constantly decreasing with each charge it gets. Would have expected to decrease slower than this, to be honest, especially since it showed a full charge capacity of ~4900 mAh for or ~50-60 cycles and looked like it was stable at that value. Then it started decreasing, constantly.

As a mention, the laptop is used almost daily in the following manner: several days in a row on cable (battery full, not charging) than on battery (1-2 days), then charged again and plugged in and so on. That's why it has only 128 cycles in 1.5 years of almost daily use.

So, I spend $1300 on a brand new macbook pro, 13" 256drive, 8gb ram. The battery came with 4800 mah out of the box. That calculates to roughly to a 5 hour battery. Half of what Apple claims. And this is normal web searching. No videos. I am very upset. They have + $900 billion in cash. I guess they are good at ripping the customer off. I think I am returning this one! Shame Apple.

There are some general bits of information to read through and see how they apply to your

computer situation, and configuration of software + hardware specification...

•Mac notebooks: All about batteries - Apple Support

Battery life expectation can vary with conditional use, situations, and personal preferences.

•MacBook (Retina 12-inch, Early 2015) - Technical Specifications

Hopefully the unit will see some increase in battery life, depending on load factors, temperature

and other use factor including environmental; however if the unit is relatively new, you may seek

the advice of an authorized Apple trained specialist or at least see if the Apple Store genius can

look into it to see if there's an indication of an issue. Slight difference between your experience

& a stated higher battery life could be accounted for in how the computer is used, & where.

In any event...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
