Q: Photos app doesn't recognize my iphone when plugged in. how can i fix this problem?

when i plug my iPhone to my mac, iTunes recognizes my phone, but the Photos app doesn't. therefore, i cannot import any pictures from my iPhone. can someone please tell me how i can fix this problem?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

    Switching USB ports - this worked for me. Problem came out of nowhere, no precursor. I tried re-setting trust settings and rebooting both iPhone (6s) and Mac Air (El Capitan) and all the other suggestions given here other than iCloud (I don't put 112Gb on iCloud).

    Hopefully this will not happen again.
