it is not the normal lock screen. It is a picture of a large grey lock with a box for a password underneath it
What specific model do you have? What version of OS X is installed on it? Do you have FileVault enabled? Did you enable a Firmware Password? By "Recovery Mode" do you mean you are booting the computer using COMMAND-R to start from the Recovery HD?
Yes. I'm using command R. I don't have fire vault enabled. I don't recall enabling a firmware password.
