Can read receipts be wrong?

Is it possible for an iMessage to be sent, delivered, and a read receipt be shown but the message was never seen by the other person?

iPhone 5, iOS 8.3, null

I doubt this would ever happen. It will only say it has been read if it has.

Although some people think that just because it says "Read" it means the other person has actually read it. For it to say "Read" it just means the person has opened up their screen on that iMessage, they may not have actually necessarily read the words in the text, but they have definitely seen that it's there 😝

Hope this helped 🙂
