"Audio record path not found!"

I hooked my guitar through my amp and then connected it, by the 'phone' jack, to my computer in the line in port. Sounds fine, no problem hearing it with 'monitor on' in Garageband but something's obviously wrong : each time I want to record(ie: when press on the red circle), it tells me "Audio record path not found! - Please set it in the following dialog!" and ther is no 'following dialog' that shows up.

There is one thing that I think is related to this : the 'input volume' slider is greyed out and I can't change its position from zero, even though I can select the input channel.

I've never seen, or heard of that error before, but it has nothing to do with the volume slider, that's fine.

The only thing that I can think of offhand is that GB is unable to write to the project file you created, which could be a permissions problem, or a corrupt file.

First try creating a new project and see if the error persists. If it does, try repairing permissions. What the heck, I'd also delete GB's pref files (Search your Hard Drive for "GarageBand" and delete the files that end in ".plist" and ".cs")

Let us know if any of that helps.

I get the same error message with a file that I've moved from one Mac to another.

"Audio record path not found! - Please set it in the following dialog!"
There is no 'following dialog' box. Annoying!!

I have even tried saving the original file as an archive on the first computer before trying to open it an record on the second computer.

There must be a way to move GarageBand files from one computer to another and still work on them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Found a solution:

1. Closed the GarageBand file.
2. In the Finder, I did a Get Info on the file, and under Ownership & Permissions, I changed all accesses to Read & Write.
3. Reopened the GB file and I could then record to the track I wanted.

I don't know which of the accesses did it (if I had more time, I'd figure it out). I'm just glad it works for me now.

Good luck!
