I have an iPhone 5C. Last night the screen froze whilst on safari (screen went dim with faint lines across screen). It then switched itself off. It wouldnt let me switch it back on, even though there was still 40% battery. I put it on charge overnight to ensure a full charge, but still I can't switch it on. I have tried the usual attempts (power & home button) but nothing.
Any ideas folks.

I had the same problem today. I have had my phone for just over a year- my only thought is my battery is faulty? Im going to the Apple Store tomorrow to see if they can help.

go to Apple Service
Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears. If it doesn't continue holding for up to 30 seconds for any other messages. And if still nothing happens you have a hardware failure. It is possible, but unlikely, that it is the battery, as you would have noticed the battery failing over a period of months. Take it to an Apple store for evaluation. Make an appointment first.
Perhaps trying to restore the phone to factory settings via recovery mode might help?
