Hotmail no longer receiving emails on MacBook

I've had my Hotmail account set up on my MacBook Pro for a month but haven't been receiving emails for a week (I can send them OK). I'm new to Apple from Windows so haven't got a clue what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks!
