how do I transfer photos from whatsapp android to ma laptop

How do I transfer photos from whatsapp on my android phone to my Mac laptop. I have OS X Yosemite 10.10.3. I have tried using Image Capture but the photos won't download. The photos also won't download via Photos, although Photos can download photos taken on the phone camera. Photos views the whatsapp photos as unreadable. Should I download Backup Trans and use that?

I do it this way:

Download the photos on the device.

Upload (automatic) to Carousel (Dropbox Photo Manager)

The Dropbox App on the Mac instantly downloads the files.

Same works with Google Drive.

Hi Lolastian - thanks so much for responding so quickly. I think my problem is in actually downloading the photos from the device. What program do you use for that - do you use dropbox?
