Transferring all data from old iPhone 3GS to iPhone 6

I would like some guidance on the best way to proceed. My old iPhone 3GS has 'the white screen of death' so, for all intents and purposes, I am unable to use it. However, I can still connect it to iTunes and iTunes recognises it.

I will have a new iPhone 6 in 10 days time and would like to be able to transfer ALL data from the old 3GS to the new iPhone 6 - this includes approximately 1700 photos on 'Camera Roll'. From what I've read it would seem that iTunes does not transfer photos from Camera Roll - is this correct?

Any help as to how best I should proceed would be very much appreciated.

PS The OS on my MacBook Pro is OS 10.10.2 , - the iPhone 3GS is on OS 6.1.6
