Album artwork suddenly missing, please help.

Basically i plugged my Ipod in to Itunes to put some new music on my Ipod, but it went weird on me saying there was no music content, then after a while the music reappeared again but without the Album Artwork.

I must say the artwork missing is from albums i ripped onto Itunes from CD'S.

Now re syncing isn't an option, because a few months ago after Itunes updated, it wiped all my music from my computer, and i have hundreds of CD'S so i couldn't find the time to re rip them back onto my computer. So now i manually manage my music once my Ipod is plugged in. What a shambles.

Anyway, i know its a longshot, but can anybody help?
