Terminal Issue - Permission Denied

Dear All,

As a bit of background I am trying to install the Long War mod to X-Com on Steam, and I have come to the following issue. I am trying to install the install-LW-OSX.sh file. People all over the internet say it is as easy as opening it in terminal, however when I drag the file in and press 'Enter' it states 'Permission Denied' as follows:

Anthonys-iMac:~ Anthony$ /Users/Anthony/Desktop/LW-EW-Linux-OSX-b15d2/install-LW-OSX.sh

-bash: /Users/Anthony/Desktop/LW-EW-Linux-OSX-b15d2/install-LW-OSX.sh: Permission denied

Anthonys-iMac:~ Anthony$

One suggestion on the internet was to type 'sudo' and then enter, and then run this, but the permission denied error still keeps coming up. I am currently trying to open the file from a folder on the desktop. Also, I am logged in as the admin, so no problems there.

WOuld anyone be able to help me with this.

I imagine that your installer script does not have execute permissions, which you can confirm by looking at the output from:

ls -l /Users/Anthony/Desktop/LW-EW-Linux-OSX-b15d2/install-LW-OSX.sh

If I'm correct, the fix will be:

chmod a+x /Users/Anthony/Desktop/LW-EW-Linux-OSX-b15d2/install-LW-OSX.sh

Make sure you got that script from a trustworthy source before you run it.

Thanks for the swift reply. Not being an expert at Terminal here is the situation.

When I type in the first function:

Last login: Sun May 24 11:53:16 on ttys000

And when I type in the second:

Anthonys-iMac:~ Anthony$ chmod a+x /Users/Anthony/Desktop/LW-EW-Linux-OSX-b15d2/install-LW-OSX.sh

chmod: Unable to change file mode on /Users/Anthony/Desktop/LW-EW-Linux-OSX-b15d2/install-LW-OSX.sh: Operation not permitted

Anthonys-iMac:~ Anthony$

So still not permitted. Any advice as to how I change the permissions so I can execute the shell?

Your output shows that install-LW-OSX.sh is owned by root.

-rw-r--r--+ 1 root wheel

so to change its permissions using chmod, you'll have to run chmod from sudo

i.e.

sudo chmod a+x /Users/Anthony/Desktop/LW-EW-Linux-OSX-b15d2/install-LW-OSX.sh

Once you've done that, then you should be able to run it
