my iPad won't turn on after running out of battery

So my iPad 4 won't turn on, it ran completely out of battery and when i try to charge it, it just keeps showing up the battery symbol and then the apple logo and then it turns off again and it keeps repeating that, i can't connect it to my mac to iTunes because iTunes just shows the message "device not connected" or something on the lines of that, I've tried charging it over night but still shows the same results..
