DVD's "stutter" when playing

Recently, both home made and commercially produced DVD's are "stuttering" on my iMac. CD's, however, play correctly.

Stuttering is the term that can best describe the halting nature of the problem.

Is there any simple way to determine if this is a hardware failure of somethime that can be controlled with user settings?

Many thanks,

Steve G.

Which model G5 iMac do you have?

What troubleshooting solutions have you tried to rectify the matter? Need this info to avoid the "been there, done that" senerios. For instance, have you tried repairing permissions and/or checked the DVD troubleshooting guide in the OS Help Menu?

On rare occasionif you have done a lot of copying you will get a lot of cache buildup that can cause a shutter in your optical drives performance in several different ways including error messages, spitting the media back out and the shutters.
You might give each of these a try and see if it eliminates your problem. If not then I lean toward a Hardware issue.

I personally run these, all 3 once a week to keep all the extra garbage cleaned out of my computer. One last tip, when you run Onyx be careful not to delete your Browser Bookmarks.
