Deleting Legacy iPhoto Events iOS 8?

I'm tearing my hair out trying to make the switch to Photos from iPhoto on iOS now the latter has been discontinued on iOS 8. Can anyone advise?

I can see the two iPhoto albums I had synced to iPhoto previously have been moved to Events (from my Mac) in the new Photos app. It's impossible to delete either these albums or the photographs themselves on the device (iPhone 5S 64GB). I read on this forum that it has to be done via re-syncing with iTunes. But when I look at my iPhone within iTunes it's not set to sync any photos. And re-syncing in general doesn't work either. I've tried toggling 'Sync Photos' on and off then re-syncing - no luck.

Does anyone know another approach? It really shouldn't be this hard, Apple...

I have the same (or similar problem). I have legacy iPhoto Events that rise from the dead on my iPhone even after I've purchased a new iPhone 7, restored from backup, and synced my Photos Albums with iTunes 12. Which of the two solutions that léonie suggested actually worked for you, Dharma Rascal? I'd be grateful for a solution. Thanks.

You could try to sync with iTunes and to sync a folder with a single photo to the iPhone.

What exactly happens when you try to enable "Sync Photos"?

Thanks Léonie. Good idea. 🙂 Unfortunately when I go to sync I get the following - and when I select 'sync photos' only 'all photos and albums' is an option ('selected albums' is greyed out):

I'm wondering if it's somehow because between the original syncing with iPhoto and the arrival of Photos for Mac OS my device was replaced?

When you select "Sync Photos", is it not possible to switch the selection "Photos" to a folder?

Another option to delete any synced Photos on an iOS 8 device would be to enable iCloud Photo Library in the "iCloud > Photos&Camera" settings. This should erase all synced photos.

You can later disable iCloud Photo Library again.
