what kind of movie files would itunes 12.1.2.27 allow me to insert?

Hi. Im tryin to insert movies to my itunes on windows so i can sync them on my ipod touch 5th gen and it wont show it in my library. the movies are mp4. I even tried to convert them again as mp4 and still it wont work. Any ideas?
