Apple TV purchases not available for download on my computer in iTunes?

In the past, I always streamed content from my 2010 MacBook Pro (OS X Yosemite) to the Apple TV (2nd generation). Now I don't have much storage space left, so I have been purchasing (not renting) movies in iTunes directly on the Apple TV. Although it is the same iTunes account, the Apple TV-content does not appear as downloadable in iTunes on my computer. Is it impossible to download? iTunes is updated to the latest version. The account is US-based, and I am located in Japan. Does this make a difference?
