Cant get rid of cookies on Safari- virus?

I keep getting adverts on my Safari, I have deleted all cookies and blocked new cookies but it makes no difference they simply re-install. Now I cant use passwords to get into websites. Really unhappy and nervous i have a virus. Have the newest safari updated a couple of days ago.


Can anyone help me?

1. Use free AdwareMedic to remove adware

Install , open, and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button to remove adware.

Once done, quit AdwareMedic.


or


Remove the adware manually by following the “HowTo” from Apple.

2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Turn those off and relaunch Safari.

Turn those on one by one and test.


3. Safari > Preferences > Search > Search Engine :

Select your preferred search engine.


4. Safari > Preferences > General > Homepage:

Set your Homepage.

Cookies have nothing whatsoever to do with the problem, and if you have blocked all cookies, that is causing you to be unable to log into websites. (Pretty much all websites that have logins rely on cookies to make those logins work.) Cookies are not the evil that they are often portrayed to be; unblock them.


As for the ad problem, dominic23 is probably correct, and you have adware installed. Follow his instructions to get rid of it.
