May 24, 2015 7:13 AM in response to Betty_Huthby dj_tucks,There are a couple things you might want to try:
1. Have you calibrated your watch? Link to do so is here: Calibrating your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy - Apple Support
If you haven't then definitely try this out and see if it helps!
2. How are you trying to record the walk? Are you using the Workout App? The Activity App does its best to track things throughout the day, but when you are doing a dedicated workout like your brisk walk then you should use the Workout App; the information recorded will also be available to the Activity App.
If you are using the Workout App, and are currently using "Outdoor Walk", then try switching over to the "Other" workout option and see if that helps. That seems to have done the trick for quite a few people on here.

May 24, 2015 7:16 AM in response to dj_tucksby Betty_Huth,I have not calibrated, so will try that. and I do use the workout app, using outdoor walk, so will try switching to "other" and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestions. Will report back tomorrow.

May 24, 2015 7:19 AM in response to Betty_Huthby Meg St._Clair,You might find this explanation of how the activity tracking features work helpful:

If your doctor tells you you can't do more than you're doing, you should definitely take that advice. However, if you're healthy, there's no reason that you can't keep getting more fit.
Best of luck.

May 24, 2015 7:45 AM in response to Meg St._Clairby Betty_Huth,When I walk I Have my phone with me, so looking at the info on calibrating the watch, it looks like I have done that already. I have had the watch since April 25 and Have always had the phone with me when I used the Workout App.
I will try the "other" workout option and see how that works. Thanks for suggestions.
Regarding working out more and more, My schedule allows for the half hour or so every morning for dedicated activity. I am reasonably healthy for my age, and really somewhat active all day, but not at the pace of the walk every morning. I am somewhat competitive and find a program that will keep pushing me to to do more and more and more to be frustrating as I can never reach what it thinks is good. I would like an app (on the watch) that lets me reach that optimum goal that I set and then let me maintain it. Not keep pushing for more all the time.

May 24, 2015 7:42 AM in response to Betty_Huthby matt.hoy,Has it gotten worse since updating to 1.0.1?
Please see my thread regarding this here: Workout/Activity Bug on 1.0.1
I did a 1 hour+ walk this morning and received only 6 minutes of credit

May 24, 2015 7:47 AM in response to matt.hoyby Betty_Huth,It hasn't gotten worse. Seems to be about the same. I would like to give feed back to the App Developers about their Activity Program.Anyone know how to do this?

Submit your feedback to Apple requesting such a feature here:

May 24, 2015 10:20 AM in response to Meg St._Clairby papjo,I believe the new software update "tightened" this feature up somewhat. Doing the same amount of walking, at pretty much the same pace, doesn't credit me the same amount of minutes it did prior to the update. I've seen many others mention this as well. Perhaps that will be changed in the next update or we'll all be huffing a little more trying to get our wathces' approval!

May 24, 2015 11:00 AM in response to Betty_Huthby Ron Goodman1,I'm frustrated with some things about the Activity app and pulse monitoring too, but at the risk of sounding silly, the important thing about doing your walks is how your body reacts, not what the Activity app shows. You were probably quite satisfied with your routine before you got your Watch.

May 24, 2015 11:10 AM in response to Betty_Huthby swandy,I Posted a thread a while back imagining some older folks getting Apple Watches for Mothers and Father's Day and then having coronaries trying to satisfy the green circle. While I sort of understand the premise of basing "exercise" on heart rate, there should be allowances either based upon age or at least let the users decide at what level they wish to "workout".

The phone does base the exercise accumulated on what people normally do. And its sounds as if the OP has far more common sense than your theoretical dimwit who ignores the signs of a coronary to fill up a ring on a watch.

If as you say, "the phone does base the exercise accumulated on what people normally do", they why have there been so many reported "issues" like the OP either here or in other forums where the Exercise ring does not advance by "doing what we normally do"? Yes, by synchronizing your watch (and the OP indicated that she probably has done this based on the number of times she has used the iPhone/Watch when doing her morning walk), the Watch will learn your strides/paces as it is able to compare it to the GPS on the iPhone itself. But it apparently still will not give you "exercise/green circle" credit for anything that it deems is not getting your heart rate up high enough. Hence my suggestion that the Workout App and the Activities Green Circle allow users to determine what they or their doctors feel is good/sufficient exercise for themselves.
And as far as my "dimwit" - can't understand sarcasm Meg?
