Is there any way i can delete an apple account from my phone when i don't know the password? i bought the phone second hand and now want to restore it in iTunes back to factory settings to pass on to a friend but i have to turn off find my phone first? thanks

You have encountered Activation Lock. the previous owner must remove the device from his account or you will need his Apple ID and password. Otherwise, the device is useless.
No way to do it without knowing that AppleID's password. Your friend will never be able to activate it and use it if you don't know that password, or know the person who does know that password.
