Q: apple pay double-charged at McDonalds

Three times recently I have gone to my local McDonalds, used Apple Pay on my iPhone 6 to pay for a meal, and the cashier said the transaction didn't go through even though the phone reported the transaction as being successful (bell tone with checkmark in circle where fingerprint animation plays). They asked me to try the payment a second time and their register then showed that it went through successfully. In all three cases my bank shows me as having paid twice! Who's fault is this? Apple Pay or McDonalds? The store manager says they will give me a refund if I can show that I double-paid for the meals, but how could this happen at all?

Note that I have used Apple Pay at the same McDonalds numerous times, so this is an intermittent problem.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3

McDonald's. If an Apple Pay transaction goes through, the info is sent to your bank issuer as well as the merchant, however, McDonald's didn't get the info/payment which means that they had an issue with their system. I believe your cashier press debit instead of credit, complicating things. Show the manager your bank statement (via the app/recent transactions) and show him you paid for one meal but charged twice for such.
