Separating Audio From Two Applications

Hi there,

I want to talk to people on Skype whilst listening to other apps on my mac. I can do this, however with the audio coming through both channels of my earphones the sound is muddy, so sometimes I can't make out what people are saying. So I was wondering if there is either an app or preference I can choose to pan one left and one right?
