As with the iPhone, there's very rarely a need to do this. What is the problem you're having that makes you think an app needs to be "closed"?

Mainly to extend the battery life , because open apps in the background always run along.

    Hi Apple Team,

I am very disappointed and there will be much more that will be, too!

It is not possible to take a call with my bluetooth headset using the apple watch!!??

This was confirmed by your technical support and this is more than disappointing!!

If you would have told me that this does not work, I would not have bought the watch.

    To be preceise.

    Pair the watch with headphones

    You can hear music

You can not take a call and listen/ talk via your headset!!

Steve would be furious about that!

That is no more true of the Apple Watch than it is of the iPhone. The apps you think you're closing on your iPhone are, for the most part, doing absolutely nothing, certainly not using your battery.

On an iPhone, you turn off background use of an app by going to Settings>General>Background App Refresh. As most of the app on the Apple Watch are simply pulling information from the iPhone, they aren't doing anything in the background.

What does this have to do with the original post? It is considered far more polite to the original poster, as well as more likely to get you the help you want, if you start your own thread if you have a technical support question.

What Meg stated is correct, there's really no need to "force" quit the apps on the phone. I do it every now and then, especially when I want to restart my phone. But unless one of them has somehow gotten stuck and is running, which you'll probably notice by the phone getting warm and the battery quickly draining. there's no real need. I did have that happen once quite a while ago on one of the older iPhones but not since. On the watch the apps aren't 'running" unless you've launched one and have it active on the screen. If you've gone back to the Time face you've effectively quit it. Even those that you have included in Glances won't update or "run" until you pull up that Glance.

BBecause certain apps - like the one from CNN - sometimes don't seem inclined to update on their own. By force quitting them they will then update their information. With regards to battery life you are probably correct but I would not be surprised if open apps do have some effect on the battery life.

That is a specific problem. But, your assumption that apps not in the foreground are using battery life is based on some (common) faulty assumptions about how iOS works. There's no indication that Apple has taken a step backward with the Apple Watch OS and made it less efficient than iOS. Apps not currently being used are in a mostly suspended state (see the above on background app refresh). Unless there is a problem with the app, there's no need to "close" it.

Steve would tell you to connect your headphones to your iPhone, not your Watch, and listen to music and take calls. If you don't have your iPhone with you then you aren't going to be able to take a call.

Well I would have the same question but for different reasons. Since I used Runkeeper on the apple watch, the location services stay turned on for that app constantly - constant draining of battery.

I could turn off location services or only 'when using' but then it does not track the location while running anymore. I force quit the app on the iphone but the location icon is still on and when going to privacy settings I can see that Runkeeper is still using it. That means it must come from the Apple Watch - therefore closing the app would be useful! Only way out for me is to uninstall the app from the watch and then it works again as it should...

You can't. Apple didn't include such a feature, most likely because it is unnecessary.

When I use the stopwatch. I tap the red button to stop the timing. Tap the white button to reset it to zero. And then just push the crown in to go back to the watch face. That's the way it works. If it's not, there is a "force" quit available by pushing in the side button until the option to turn the watch off appears with the other two options and then press the button in again and you'll go back to the time face.

IF you're having some other issue just turn the watch off and restart.

TThanks for the replies. It turns out that when I read your posts, I was using the chronograph watch face which has the sropwatch facility as std feature, if I change watch faces it is no longer an issue as stated above.
