I can't start up from my install disc. ???

Hi and thanks. I'm attempting to start up from the original Install Disc my iMac came with to run Disk Utility. However, when I insert the disc it spins around for about 20 seconds and then the iMac spits it out. So I can't hold down C and start up from this Install Disc.
