17" Macbook Pro Screen Replacement Advice

I have recently broken the screen of my 2011 17" Macbook Pro. It had the glossy display option. I am looking to replace the screen with one that I know is working from another laptop I had a while back. I have a Matte screen from a 2009 17" Macbook Pro to use. I was wondering if the 2009 display will work on my slightly newer model? I have done similar repairs on Macbooks and Macbook Pros in the past.Would I be better off just getting a replacement from a 2011 Mac? If at all possible I would like to use this 2009 Matte screen. Is it possible?
