How do i add movies from photo to iMovie?

In the new update from iPhoto to Photo, I'm having trouble moving videos to my desktop from a shared album.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

export the original to the desktop and then import to iMovie

You first have to import it into your Library from the shared album, then you can export or drag it to the desktop from the library.
