My iPhone takes pre-edited pictures

Taking pictures with my iPhone 6 takes pictures that are stored in an edited state that significantly alters the appearance, and to the detriment of the picture quality (color, exposure changes) ... I can undo the editing by accessing the photo through "Photos" app however I cannot find a means of turning off the automatic editing. Never had this happen with my iPhone 5.

Any ideas ? I feel I am just missing a camera setting that is default adjusting the picture that I simply need to turn off.

In the Camera app, look in the status bar at the top. Look for "HDR". If it says "HDR On" the camera is taking multiple exposures and combining the information. This can be very useful in low light situations. Some people like the results all the time, some don't. Tap on it and select "Off".

There's also an icon in the lower right with 3 circles. This can apply special effects to the photo. You may have one of them selected.
