Folders are a very useful way of organizing your albums into groups. For example, you may have a number of albums relating to birthdays or weddings. Create folders for each of these topics and drag the albums to the respective folders. Similar for holidays or visits. It's a great way to keep everything organised and cuts down on the list of items appearing in the Source column in iPhoto.
Once you've created your folders and allocated albums to them, you will notice a small triangle to the left of the folder name. Just click the triangle to disclose a list of albums within that folder, then click on the album to reveal all the photos in that album. Another useful feature - clicking on the folder name will reveal ALL the pics contained in all the albums within that folder. Clicking on the triangle again will close up the list.
