Can't view subtitles using stock player or VLC streaming from HooToo TripMate.

Hi Guys, I've reached that age where my ears also need glasses, so my enjoyment of video files is dependent on Subtitles.

Due to the restrictions of storage space on the iPad, I stream Videos via wireless from a Thumb drive using a HooToo TripMate Nano HT-TM02 "Mobile Router".

The files I'm using have been downloaded using "Get_iPlayer" and consist of an MP4 Video File and it's associated ".SRT" subtitles file.

These file sets play perfectly on my Vista PC using either iTunes or VLC Player without any intervention from me.

So far, I have been unable to coax either the stock player supplied with IOS 8.3, or the VLC application to display subs, I have tried all the Universal, Western and Eastern European "Text Encoding" settings to no avail.

Can anyone help me? 😢

Windows Vista, null
