What are some applications that can open a .DS_Store file?

I am a game modder and I have attempted to modify a certain game so that several things (Note: modding is allowed by the publisher) can be balanced. However upon using the "reveal all" command and searching for specific files in the game, the only files related to the game that show up are the game itself, one or two scattered game files, and several .DS_Store files. I believe that by opening these game-specific .DS_Store files, I can modify the game. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to open them? If it helps anyone, the game is known as R.U.S.E.

It will open with the default of Text Edit. But for editing, I would use Text Wrangler.

You do know that these files won't be visible unless you toggle visibility for hidden files.

.DS_Store files are created by the Finder in OS X, not the developer. They contain information about the folder, icons within the folder, how the icons appear, any background image, etc. They would not contain any information used by the game during play.

I have never heard of ds_store files being edited. (Deleted then recreated, yes). Perhaps you want to describe just why you want to do this--what it's supposed to accomplish, or give the instructions for these edits that you may have found somewhere?
