24" iMac, Mavericks, OS X 10.9.5
Could not connect to Internet; I reset modem; went back to iMac, no change. Did a “Restart”; message said needed to set date & time; did that; looked at top menu bar, it said needed to load hardware for Internet. Did a complete "shutdown" & everything is okay now. Should this be a concern?

If your model is more than a couple of years old and has a logic-board battery, it may need to be replaced. That would have to be done at an Apple Store or another authorized service provider.
"reset date & time" is this a concern?
