Ipod shuffle 1st gen not responding

Hello,

I have a 1st gen Ipod Shuffle, was given it by a friend who bought it brand new.
Wasnt working properly when I got it, i managed to sync a few songs from my iTunes library onto it.
Got through 4 songs then the Shuffle turned off, now will not turn on.. when plugged into my iMac (Yosemite 10.10.2)
"iTunes cannot recognise this ipod at this time" I've downloaded the iPod reset utility.. Which is unable to reset the ipod due to an "error" whilst reseting in the program..
I don't live close to an Apple store to just up and take it in to get it looked at?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this working? I've tried everything.. tried formatting it on a windows pc, that has done nothing.
Would just like to listen to music when out skating

Thanks - Any feedback is appreciated

iPod shuffle, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Hello CloseShave,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If your iPod shuffle powered off while you were using it, and will not power back on, then you might just need to give it a good charge. To properly charge your iPod shuffle please follow the directions below.

iPod shuffle (1st generation)

To charge a iPod shuffle battery, connect the device to a high-power USB port. Please be aware that USB keyboards and non-powered USB hubs generally do not have high-power USB ports. If you connect to a low or non-powered port, iPod shuffle will not charge.

Once the iPod shuffle is plugged in, it will take about 2 hours to charge the battery to 80% capacity and about 4 hours to charge it to 100%. Find out how to check the battery charge here. For information on status lights while connected, click here.

Note: The computer must be turned on and set to not go to sleep or hibernate.

To charge the battery using an iPod USB Power Adapter

  1. Connect the AC plug adapter to the power adapter (they might already be connected).
  2. Plug the USB connector of the iPod shuffle into the power adapter.
  3. Plug the power adapter into a working electrical outlet.

Hi Alex, As explained above i get this error.

User uploaded file

thank you for suggesting that I am unable to charge my ipod, after stating i have used a few different PC's & mac's to fix this problem.

The battery is not the problem, as soon as the ipod is plugged in i get this error
I have used the ipod reset utility supplied by apple (Now there is no more support for this Shuffle, I had to find it else where)
Troubleshooted countless times and get nothing..
Please dont suggest making an appointment at the Apple store because i dont live close to one

Hello Close,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

We do have the download for the iPod Reset Utility for the iPod shuffle (1st generation), which is linked to below.

iPod Reset Utility 1.0.3 for Mac

If you did not download the utility from Apple, then I recommend doing so, and running through the process to ensure the correct Utility had been ran.

If all else fails and it is still not recognized after using the link above, then I suggest getting in contact with Apple Support by using the link below.

Take care,
