my music in iTunes and samples in the store skip

My music in iTunes stutters during playback if I surf, move my mouse or try to use iTunes, it also stutters when playing a sample in the store. But my music plays fine in Media Player. I've tried a couple setting changes people have suggested online. I may be mistaken but it might have started after downloading iTunes 12.
