I have purchased and then deleted audiobooks off my phone, thinking they would be stored in the cloud. But now I am trying to retrieve those audiobooks to download them onto my laptop and I cannot find them anywhere.
Are they lost for good now?
Please somebody help! There were some good audiobooks..

Were they purchased form Audible or the iTunes Store?
If you purchased the audiobooks from iTunes, then they would have been one time downloads as you can see in the below article.
Download past purchases from iTunes in the Cloud - Apple Support
Now, it may be possible to be granted an additional download if you try to contact iTunes Store support since it seems like you were not aware of their policy. It is not a guarantee that they'll grant that to you, but it may be worth a shot.
