my iPhone 6 isn't recognized with iTunes on my Windows 8 PC.

I've tried to sync my new iPhone 6 to iTunes on my Windows 8 PC but it's not recognized. I've gone thru all the troubleshooting and it's still not working. I had no problem with my iPod 5 Touch. I read a similar problem with this from last year and saw that "Control panel, uninstall every apple program including bonjour and quicktime and mobile device drivers. restart computer, download iTunes" did the trick but I'm worried I'll lose my library. My daughter is on my family sharing and I don't want her to lose hers either. Help!
