Deleted and Unsubscribed Podcasts - iTunes 12

The software: Mac OS 10.7.5, iTunes 12.0.1 The problem: I subscribed to 5 podcasts in iTunes 10.6.3 but unsubscribed and deleted 4 of them. Now that Apple has forced me to upgrade to iTunes 12 (why should syncing to a 4th gen 'classic' iPod require iTunes 12… it's ridiculous! but that another topic), iTunes wants to connect to all those other podcasts that are not subscribed to anymore and are not on my Mac at all. Fortunately Little Snitch can block the connection, but it shouldn't need to. How do I stop this iTunes 12 insanity?
