Airport Extreme setup difficulty

I'm switching from a Belkin to Airport Extreme. I'm using a Motorola DSL router provided by my phone company. I have an iMac desktop with Mac OS X v 10.6.8 and this MacBook Air OS X 10.9.5. I keep getting the following message when setting up Extreme: Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address (lists the IP address here). Has anyone encountered this before or heard of this and if so, do you have a recommendation?

Thank you,

iMac (20-inch Early 2008), iOS 6.1.6

By default the AirPort Extreme will want to perform as an Internet router. in this case you would have two routers in series both trying to provide IP addresses to network clients. The simple solution is to reconfigure one of these routers as a bridge. The Extreme would be the logical choice in your set up. Did you already do this?
