itunes shuffle keeps turning on

Does anyone know how to turn off itunes shuffle? It keeps coming back on despite the fact that it is unchecked under the controls tab. I've tried unchecking all three options: song, album, groupings. I've tried clearing the up next list. The arrows that cross over each other are not highlighted in blue. The only thing I succeeded in doing was temporarily stopping itunes from playing the next song on the album I am listening to. I've tried restarting itunes. Nothing has worked so far. It doesn't seem like it should be this difficult. Itunes didn't used to be this challenging to use.

I have an imac G5 27" and am using Yosemite 10.10.3. My itunes version is 12.1.2.27.

Any help would be appreciated.
