How to keep internet connection when logging out

I have a computer at work and would like to be able to remotely control it. I leave it on, but do not login. It should be connected to wifi and it also has internet cable. But when I use my computer at home to try to connect to it, it's not online.

1. Is it a default behavior for Mac to disconnect itself when logout?

2. How can I keep my computer connect to the internet either through wifi or through internet cable when logout?

Thank you,

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Is the computer sleeping?

If you go to System Preferences>Energy Saver is wake on lan/network access checked? It will tak a shot time to wake.

I can turn on my Mac Pro and then I can use Screen Sharing from another Mac to log into that Mac.

If you do not log out can you access the computer remotely?

Have you talked to your work IT people? Maybe they do not allow remote access.
