I have an old iPad I would like to give my husband. I do not want it to be tied to mine. He needs his own account. I have reset the device but can't seem to get it to the point of him registering it as his own.

Hi Go to Settings Turn off Find my iPhone Then Restore iPad to Factory Settings After that its ready for your husband to set up with his own Apple ID Cheers Brian
This is because of so called "Activation lock". It is in place exactly to prevent people from taking others' iDevices, restoring/erasing them and using as their own without permission of the original owner (you). The Apple web site has the instructions as how to proceed.

Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iPhone
Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings

Go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and turn Find my iPad off.

You must know your iCloud username and password and be able to log into icloud.com.
Go to Settings -> My devices.
If this iPad is listed there, click on it and select "remove". Then it should be free to register with another account.

I never found my devices to remove the old one, but it seems we have finally made the old iPad his own. Thank you all for the help.
